The “Golden Drum of Basel” will be held and awarded for the tenth time on Saturday evening at the LONGINES CHI CLASSICS BASEL, ensuring a loud drum roll – not only because the specially composed drum march will stir up the sand in the St. Jakobshalle.

This trophy enjoys great popularity as the main event of the day, and its prize money makes it an extremely attractive competition. From its inception the Golden Drum has managed to count as one of nine jumping competitions towards the world rankings.

With the “Golden Drum” LONGINES CHI CLASSICS BASEL have created a prize that contributes decisively to the identity of this world-class event.

It is the prize that gives the tournament its local roots. Nothing is more symbolic of the confidence and pride of the city on the Rhine than a carnival drum. The Golden Drum trophy has spread the reputation of the LONGINES CHI CLASSICS BASEL – and also of the city – around the world.

Behind the Golden Drum is one of Basel’s landmark institutions: the hotel Les Trois Rois. Originally created by hotel owners Ursula and Thomas Straumann, the competition now functions as a special prize for the Basel city championships, giving the trophy a uniquely local character.

Not surprisingly, the trophy will not leave the city. The winner’s name will be engraved on the Golden Drum, and he or she will receive a nearly equally beautiful replica to take home.
